I am looking for a service or parts manual for a foley belsaw planner. _________________ New is nice, but the scrap pile is more interesting. |

I got lucky, Foley Belsaw website still offers the manual as a free downlaod for the planner. Mine is a 910 model. The 3 groove pulley on top is made to have two belts to the drive motor and one belt for a edger blade attachment. Now I am trying to find moulder heads for it. and the edger attachment would be sweet to have to. From Mike _________________ New is nice, but the scrap pile is more interesting. |

As far as the planer heads all you need is some 1/8 tool steel and the gibs that you use for your planer blades. Remove your blades and install your moulding knives. Grinding your own profiles is really not to tough. One knife is all you need. The most critical part is to get the right back relief and of course get them sharp. You can profile with a bench grinder and dress the wheel with a diamond dresser. It is best to use a soft wheel (pink or white) and keep cooling in water to prevent burning the blades. I used old saw blades and cut them up with a side grinder for most of the knives I have made. I used to run a custom millwork shop and could match profiles for a little of nothing, which made short runs possible. There is a market for that especially for historical restorations. Those old planers are a real boon to the small shop. I still have one and a box of moulding knives I ground over the years. _________________ You can do it right or do it over. |

| Any suggestions where to buy molding knives? I want to start experimenting with my little 408 planer/molder. I really haven't done much with it since I bought it. |
