Newbie, looking for some info on a bandsaw build this fall. I have lots of stuff around here to use. Looking for the least expensive type mill with all the toys, lol Like everybody isn't Very Happy Not interested in pushing it through the logs. I will be asking questions when I get started! Have other projects going now but will be back. Birch Run Mi Judge

welcome to the site. Cheapest way is install a boat winch crank at the end of the track and use cables to pull the mill thru.

Welcome Judge, or a crank mounted on the saw carriage with cables, ropes or chain running the length of the track to pull the band through the log. We are just full of ideas.

Or go for a set of variable speed DC motors. Right about now you should be getting the feeling the sky's the limit. The galleries are great here, full of ideas. Mix and match as parts become available. My object is to build a nice bandmill for under $1,000. I've used a lot of "stuff" I had laying around and so far so good on the budget. Good luck with the build, looking forward to pictures.

I can't say my progress will be fast

but I will update as that goes, and perhaps that will show you what not to do Smile
